The Dark Knight... Returns?

Hello, let me start out by saying the poster is fake. As Batmania dies down I feel it it is time we begin to address rumors and sequel of The Dark Knight. This movie was a phenom. Obviously, Warner Brothers would be crazy not to do a sequel. There are many questions that arise? Who's the villain? What would the plot be? Would this be the final movie? This is where we get into dicey territory.

First and foremost please note that no sequel has even been discussed. No plot been worked on. This does not mean Nolan and Bale won't be back. It was the same way with Batman Begins. The Dark Knight wasn't talked about till months after the movie left the theater. Batman Begins left a great opening for The Dark Knight by having the Joker be the villain. The Dark Knight Sequel however is gonna be extremely difficult.

Who's the villian? People will tell you Catwoman. Others will tell you the Riddler. Nolan has expressed disinterest in both, saying that both of them have have been done. Stating that the Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul have never been in film. Also the problem of realistic villans comes up. Batman has some great complex villains, such as Clayface, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc. These villains would need extreme home makeover Batman edition makeovers. Mr. Freeze has a great back story, but would the audience accept him. Batman also has realistic villains, that wouldn't put seats in chairs. How many people have heard of KGBeast or Dr Strange? This leaves few options.

  • Bane
  • Riddler
  • Talia al Ghul
  • Wrath
  • Deadshot ( although not a full batman villain)
These are who I would consider the most likely candidates.

What about Robin? No. Simple as that. Bale doesn't want robin, Nolan wants Bale. I mean it could be possible to add the Character of Dick Grayson without having him become robin. Maybe as a set up for a non Nolan Batman movie. However I think warner brothers are becoming wise and letting film makers do what they want and butting in less.

Will the Next movie be the Dark Knight Returns? No... well maybe. In name only. The film may borrow elements from the book, but I can't imagine them doing it. The Joker and Two-Face play huge rolls in the book, not to mention Superman in the finale. Certain key themes, such as Batman coming out of retirement, or the uphill battle to protect his city. They could replace the mutants with drugged citizens of the narrows, or violent punk vigilantes.

Anyway. The point I'm making is There will most likely be a sequel to The Dark Knight. No one knows what it is yet, so don't buy into any bull of Johnny Depp, or Angelina Jolie. Trust in Nolan and he will deliver.

The poster was from this source. I like the idea of the riddler as an obsessed almost Zodiac Criminal/Serial Killer, but it is fake. It would be neat for a movie...

Bane would be a great one. Being one of the few super villains to absolutely kick the crap out of Batman in the comic, he deserves a better send off then what Batman and Robin gave him. Also, just like the Dark Knight, there is no reason there can't be two or three villains.

Well you are right, there could be a few villains. Maybe Bane hired to take batman in ( minus the venom drug) and catwoman as a love interest. Something like that seems like it could happen.

Why not have venom involved? Steroids are pretty topical nowadays, and it's not necessarily a far fetched topic. I think it would be a great plot device.

Well, the question is how to involve it. I mean venom in some way could be involved, but in Nolan's universe I don't see Bane with tubes going into his skull. Bane is an interesting character without venom. Here's a guy who trains himself to be a bad ass in a prison, basically becoming the anti-batman. The man who wants to break the bat.
If venom is involved I wouldn't see it as some super strength steroid, but rather a way he uses to keep his body in top form.

i'd love poison ivy but unfortunately her back story isn't very realistic or scary if you think about it. ahhhh look out! giant vines are attacking!!!

The only was Poison Ivy could work would be as a terrorist. A fan of the environment wanting to destroy Gotham City due to its pollution and corruption of man. All of her growth formulas and giant vines would disappear. She could/should still be a temptress of men, but no love potions. I wince looking her role in Batman and Robin... :Shutter:
